This documentation is provided with the HEAT environment and describes this HEAT instance.

Shell

The Shell is an interactive terminal into the HEAT Execution Environment, opened over a WebSocket from the browser. Open Developer Tools, then Shell (/admin/developer-tools/shell).

⚠️

This is a restricted tool. It opens with an acknowledgement dialog stating that it is intended for use by, or under the direction of, VRAI personnel. If you were not asked to open it, close it. A shell into the execution environment can change platform state in ways no other screen can.

What it is

The Shell connects to the execution environment behind HEAT and gives you a command prompt inside it. It reports a connection status of connecting, connected, disconnected or error, and offers a Reconnect control when the connection drops.

Access is gated the same way as the rest of the Control Centre, so only an Administrator or a Developer can reach it, and signing out closes it.

When to use it

Use the Shell only for a task VRAI has asked you to perform, following the exact steps you were given. Routine operator work has a dedicated screen elsewhere in the console. Reach for Sessions, Tasks, Configuration and the Monitoring pages first. The Shell is the tool of last resort, for a diagnosis or a fix that the console does not expose.

Opens your browser's print dialog. Choose "Save as PDF" as the destination.
