This documentation is provided with the HEAT environment and describes this HEAT instance.

ANT+ module

The ANT+ module reads an ANT+ heart rate monitor over a USB ANT radio stick and publishes heart rate and R-R interval as one entity, once per capture tick. It talks to the device in-process through the open-source SmallEarthTech.AntPlus  library; there is no separate bridge process. Package name in the module registry: HEAT.AntPLUSModule.

What you need

  • A USB ANT radio stick (a Dynastream/Garmin ANT USB2 or USB-m stick; the module ships the matching USB-serial drivers). Windows must enumerate it before HEAT Capture starts.
  • An ANT+ heart rate monitor, broadcasting on its own fixed ANT+ device number.
  • See Install a capture module for adding it to HEAT Capture.

What it captures and how to configure it

One fixed entity, carrying a BiometricSensorComponent with two readings, published only while a matching device is connected:

Reading nameTypeNotes
HeartRatefloat, beats per minuteThe device’s own computed heart rate
RRfloat, millisecondsThe current R-R interval (time between beats), per the ANT+ heart rate device profile

There is exactly one setting of its own, DeviceID: the ANT+ device number to connect to. It is not free text. HEAT Capture scans for ANT+ devices and offers a dropdown of the ones it finds; pick the heart rate monitor from that list. The module connects only to the exact device number selected, never to “the first available device”: leaving it unset means the module never finds a match, since no real heart rate strap broadcasts as device number 0. Beyond that, it exposes only the generic settings every module has (Enabled, Interval, OverrideNodeId/NodeId, Timeout) - see Manage capture modules.

The SmallEarthTech.AntPlus library supports other ANT+ profiles, but this module’s setting scan returns heart-rate devices only. Bike, cadence, muscle-oxygen, stride and fitness-equipment devices are not selectable or captured.

Limits

  • No entity while no device is connected. Unlike some other biometric modules, this one publishes nothing at all, not even a placeholder, until a matching device is found; it does not seed default values.
  • A lost connection clears the reading immediately, then keeps scanning for the configured device number every 100 ms and resumes the moment it reconnects. There is no stale-value grace period.
  • Heart rate and R-R interval only. Any other ANT+ sensor type is out of scope for this module.
