This documentation is provided with the HEAT environment and describes this HEAT instance.

Configure the Open DIS module

Settings are edited in HEAT Capture’s module settings UI, under HEAT.DISModule.

🚫

Changing UdpPort away from its default (3000) moves the listener outside the firewall scope HEAT Capture grants this module. Update the workstation’s firewall rule to match before relying on a non-default port.

Network

SettingTypeDefaultWhat it controls
UdpPortinteger3000UDP port the native receiver binds. See the warning above before changing this.
NetworkModeBroadcast | MulticastBroadcastWhether the receiver joins a multicast group or binds the port for broadcast traffic.
NetworkGroupAddressstring239.255.0.1Multicast group to join. Only used when NetworkMode is Multicast.
LocalCaptureOnlybooleanfalseWhen enabled, PDUs from any sender that is not one of the workstation’s own local IP addresses are dropped before processing.

Changing any of UdpPort, NetworkMode or NetworkGroupAddress while the module is running tears down and rebuilds the native socket in place - including reconnecting the receive loop if a session is active - without restarting the module itself.

Session trigger

Because this module runs continuously rather than being started and stopped with a capture session (see Overview), it needs its own rule for deciding when a session should start and stop from the DIS traffic it sees.

SettingTypeDefaultWhat it controls
StartOnAnyPDUbooleanfalsetrue: any valid PDU starts a session if one is not already running. false: only a PDU whose type is in StartPduTypes does, and only when StartOnSpecificPDU is also enabled.
StartOnSpecificPDUbooleantrueEnables the StartPduTypes trigger. Only meaningful when StartOnAnyPDU is false.
StartPduTypesset of PDU types{StartResume}Which PDU types start a session, when StartOnSpecificPDU is enabled.
StopOnSpecificPDUbooleanfalseEnables the StopPduTypes trigger. Only meaningful when StartOnAnyPDU is false.
StopPduTypesset of PDU types{StopFreeze}Which PDU types stop a running session, when StopOnSpecificPDU is enabled.
StopOnSilencebooleanfalseOnly available when StartOnAnyPDU is true. Stops a running session after SilenceThreshold with no PDUs received at all.
SilenceThresholdduration10sHow long the network can go quiet before StopOnSilence ends the session.

StartOnAnyPDU and the specific-PDU-type settings are mutually exclusive modes, not layered: enabling StartOnAnyPDU disables the StartPduTypes/StopPduTypes triggers entirely, and StopOnSilence only exists in the StartOnAnyPDU mode.

Host settings

This module also exposes the generic settings every HEAT Capture module has - Enabled, Interval, OverrideNodeId/NodeId, Timeout - with one specific behavior worth calling out: Enabled disables PDU processing entirely; received packets are still counted but dropped. See Manage capture modules for what each of these does generically.
